Barrier Layer
Barrier layers are employed, for example, in the layered structures of metallization’s of the connection surfaces of components. Their purpose is, to prevent the diffusion between two different metals, or that, during the soldering process, a metallization is leached and dissolved into the bath during its contact with the liquid solder. A classical example is the nickel barrier under a silver / palladium metallization.
