Stand Off

Stand-off is the term for the distance between the underside of a component and the pcb surface. As a rule, this dimension is maintained through small spacers (having the shape of small bumps) that are integrated into the components. A stand-off is required to allow the flux fumes emanating during the solder process to escape form underneath the components.
